Orientation Program and CPR Training 2017

On August 12, 2017, 533 first year students were welcomed into the NSS program.  They were apprised of the origin and constitution of NSS at the national level; codes of conduct of NSS officials and students participating in the program; working area, organization and administration of NSS at IIT Kharagpur; and associated formalities, e.g., the position of NSS in the extra academic activities (EAA) program of IIT Kharagpur and grading policy.  The Program Officers, who head the fifteen units of NSS IIT Kharagpur were also introduced to those coming into the program.

Professor Tapas Mondal of McMaster University, Canada also addressed the students on that day to introduce to them the technique of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a medical procedure that often becomes useful in saving lives of individuals suffering from cardiac arrest.  He also gave a hands on training to the students and other attendees as he frequently does in many countries.  Interestingly, he thought the gathering of August 12, 2017 was possibly the largest that he dealt with.  He was also kind enough to volunteer to share his expertise with interested students in trying to develop inexpensive medical instruments and administering CPR training going forward.  St John Ambulance Brigade of Kharagpur facilitated the CPR training program of August 12 and the program was coordinated by Professors BK Dubey (Program Officer, Unit 1) and Professor Nishant Chakravorty (Program Officer, Unit 8).
