Day 4: NSS, IIT Kharagpur Annual Camp 2016

Road work continued at Dakshin Banpatna, Raghunathpur, Seva Dal and Purba Shikarpari areas.  The groups at Purba Shikarpari were unable to pinch a wheel barrow since the beginning.  Their progress has therefore been somewhat compromised so far.  They finally managed to borrow a tricycle trolley from a local.  This will hopefully let them finish their work on time.  Local residents are also helping by lending their tools and implements, participating physically in the road works and sparing words of encouragement for the hardworking volunteers.

In the afternoon Mr Kartik Chatterjee, an expert on sustainable agriculture from Shaktigarh, Burdwan with several years of hands on experience, talked to 15 farmers from the Khelar area interested to learn the latest techniques in sustainable agriculture.  The local farmers were so impressed with what Mr Chatterjee had to present, they are planning to visit Mr Chatterjee's agricultural farm in Burdwan.

The volunteers cleaned up the campground in the afternoon as well.  While garbage accumulation is expected to abate a little with banning of use of use-and-throw plates from the Annual Camp, with proliferation of plastic packages, keeping the area appears to be an uphill task indeed.

Day 5 is expected to be a busy one.  Each unit is to leave behind two volunteers at campground to sort clothes before leaving for their roadwork sites  at 8:00a.  They should be back from sites to the campground by 12:30p.  After finishing clothes sorting by 11:30a and, the sorters would start the formalities of the medical camp.  The lunch should be completed by 1:30p.  Thereafter, 2 volunteers from each unit shall facilitate the medical camp at Khelar Panchayat office premises.   Two other volunteers from each unit shall travel to Nachna, where the clothes distribution is to take place between 2:00p and 3:30p.  Others shall participate in a 5-a-side football tournament that is to include one team from Khelar area and 15 teams from 15 NSS units as players, match officials or spectators.  Each game shall be of 10-minute duration.  The plan should be to wrap up the day by 4:00p.
