Annual Camp 2014: Part VII

Image
Day 07 was the concluding day. The first session completed the remaining road-building, bush-cleaning, road-widening work. Cleaning of camp site and village surrounding started the previous day and continued. Young students met villagers and collected their feedback. It was very positive. We heard the same in the concluding session when local community leader also spoke about the experience of village community as a whole. One NSS volunteer translated the Bengali speech to Hindi. The second session of this day had first-aid training. In this, physician and support staff from B C Roy Hospital of IIT Kharagpur educated the campers. Noteworthy performances of many campers were highlighted in the valedictory session. We also took a short journey on a two-wheeler covering some of the stretches where the road-building work was done as a part of camp activities. This, feedback and other videos are part of this post along with certain photographs of this concluding day.

Day 6 continued the road building work. Watering and leveling the murram that we laid were two of the major activities. Often the source of water was quite far. We used relay system to carry the water. Two pictures in this post shows how this was being done in one location. The second half was devoted to 'joy of giving'. Clothes and useful articles collected from IIT Kharagpur campus community was distributed to the needy at camp site. We have some pictures of that in this post.

Director, IIT Kharagpur and senior faculty fro Agriculture & Food Engineering Department and Rural Development Centre of IIT Kharagpur participated in the discussion. A presentation by NSS student volunteers through an innovative slide presentation method, adapted to open space in a rural surrounding was followed by opening remark of our Director and other faculty members.
